Ashok Leyland to cut production as demand slumps
Chennai, Nov 6 (IANS) India's leading truck maker Ashok Leyland is planning massive production cut even as the company reported a steep fall in sales last month.
Last month, the company produced 3,609 units as against 5,873 units in October 2007 and 4,873 units in September 2008.
A company statement announced Thursday that Ashok Leyland would cut down its monthly production to around 2,000 units to manage the demand slowdown.
The company sold 3,397 vehicles in October this year, down from 6,186 units in September this year and 6,825 units in October 2007.
During the April-September period this year, Ashok Leyland rolled out 44,842 units and sold 39,029 units as against a production of 45,660 units and a sales of 43,858 units in the year-ago period.
