Calcutta High Court stays OBC quota implementation
Calcutta High Court has stayed implementation of OBCs quota for higher studies on Wednesday going against the Centre notifications on the same.
Reportedly a student of BBA Shyam Guha in its petition has questioned the implementation by citing that according to Supreme Court judgment, OBCs student who are graduate are excluded from the 27 per cent quota and thus IIM-C and Centre notification are violation of Supreme Court judgement.

According to the lawyer who appeared for Guha said that earlier on April 10, the Supreme Court bench held that OBC candidates cannot reap the benefit of quota. Also, that a graduate degree gives an advanced status to an OBC graduate thereby he no longer qualifies to feet the benefit of quota in post graduate level.
The Union HRD minister Arjun Singh said, “Our position is clear. It is applicable to PG courses. We will go to Calcutta High Court to vacate the stay. This order will not delay the admissions,” maintaining that, the part of judgement was not mandatory.
Reportedly the Centre is planning to reach SC on Thursday seeking clarification on the petition if it does not allow 27% quota under post graduate level.
In the meantime, the whole admission process has been jeopardised by the HC stay and uncertainty looms over the entire admission processes as IIM-C cannot go ahead with admission process till the interim order stays.
