What led Buddhadeb turning from friend to foe?

New Delhi, Sat, 10 May 2008 Vikash Ranjan

With the approaching Panchayat elections, the Left Front government in West Bengal taking initiative into its hand started attacking the Congress and particularly the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for remaining failed at all fronts in the governance of the country.

Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee continued its bombardment on the second day in succession on Friday said, "I repeat what I said earlier.

Though I don't want to denigrate the PM's high office, but I can't conceal the truth. I have great regards for Manmohan Singh. But the government under him couldn't check inflation and rising prices of essential commodities."

The ruling government at the Centre headed by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been failed at all levels such as political, economic, administrative and its opportunism reflects in passing the legislation for soothing interests of his party, his ministers to score personal rivalry, as is evident from the amendment made in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Post Graduate Institute for Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (Amendment) Act, 2007.

But, the Supreme Court's decision against the government stating illegal amendment was made solely to superannuating its Director P Venugopal has revealed the dirty face of the government before the nation that how below it can go to keep itself up.

The Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss' setting personal rivalry with the AIIMS Director Ramadoss is not concealed to anyone and the Prime Minister's silent support to him in passing legislation in the Parliament for making amendment in the AIIMS Act stands Mr. Singh in the bar too.

At the political front, the Bengal CM said Manmohan Singh has been failed in providing effective leadership to his party members, which is evident from the defeat of the party in both the states-Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. And, if the party receive the adverse reaction in the Karnataka polls too, will be proved the final setback for the Prime Minister.

The PMO official reacting to the Chief Minister's comment told these type of comments were quite natural for a politician when his party heading for the election. Political compulsions on the eve of Panchayat polls might have forced him to issuing such comments.

While the sources of the political gallery believe such comments are lingering out of frustration at the backdrop of several projects in the state, which is still waiting for Central clearances.

At the economic front, the chief minister attacked the Congress and the Prime Minister for being completely failed in curbing escalated price rise of food prices and other essential commodities, which (price rise and inflation) is the birth child of Congress' short sighted economic policies and not ensuring supply of essential commodities in time.

The entire country is suffering owing to Prime Minister's lack of appropriate action and the decision-making power. Today inflation has touched the four year's highest mark at 7.61 percent and he is still doing nothing rather sitting hand-on-hand. His pro-aam aadmi policy has been completely shattered before the people now, he said.

Although the Left and Congress-led UPA government has been registering their differences on various issues, but questioning the Prime Minister's capability openly is mere a political stunt generated by the Panchayat poll's compulsions or something else, which suddenly turned Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee from 'friend to foe.' Last year the Prime Minister has called him as his friend after knowing his views and support to rapid industrialisation of the economy.

1. Mr. Buddhadeb, Its unfair to attack PM when your won party is supporting him. Any legislation in house is cleared by cabinet and not the PM. CPM should have voted against the AIIMS amendment bill in house if you think its wrong. CPM is ally of Ramdoss in Tamil Nadu. The truth is your own comrades are supporting PM, RAMDOSS, AIIMS BILL. First get your party in order and then try criticize others. We saw the lovely display of governance, fairness and pro people attitude of your government in Nandigram. And for God's sake keep your hands off RAMDOSS. You are getting old MR. Bhattacharya. harsha
