Obama wins New Mexico, US networks project

Washington, Nov 5 (DPA) Democrat Barack Obama has defeated Republican John McCain in New Mexico, major US television networks projected late Tuesday.
A southwestern state with five votes in the decisive electoral college, New Mexico was seen in the last opinion surveys before the election as leaning to Obama, but the McCain campaign had held out hope of still achieving an upset victory there.
New Mexico borders Arizona, McCains home state.
