Washington, Nov 5 (DPA) Voting booths closed in Virginia Tuesday with a tight race in the battleground state between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain.
Virginia has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson won in 1964, but pre-election polls showed Obama with a slight edge. New Hampshire, Indiana and Kentucky also closed polls.
Virginia is among 18 states where the election is expected to be tight. Others are electoral rich Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, where polls are expected to close at 0100 GMT.
