Islamabad, Nov 4 (DPA) At least 13 Taliban militants and three security personnel were killed Tuesday in aerial strikes by government forces and attacks by Islamist insurgents in northwest Pakistan, officials and media reports said.
A suicide bomber ploughed his explosive-laden car into a security wall around an army post, located in Doaba town in the restive Hangu district of North-West Frontier Province.
The blast injured eight security personnel, one of whom later died in the hospital, the military said in a statement.
'Soldiers were checking vehicles at the roadblock when the suicide bomber travelling in a white-coloured car struck them,' a duty officer at the Doaba police station said.
Separately, suspected Taliban militants ambushed a police vehicle in Takht Bhai, killing two policemen and injuring two more, Urdu-language Aaj news channel reported.
The UNESCO world heritage site of Takht Bhai, known for its Buddha relics, is located some 80 km from Peshawar, the NWFP capital.
The attacks are the latest in a string of raids against the security forces in the volatile tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
Pakistani helicopter gunships and jets pounded militants' positions in Dama Dola area of Bajaur tribal district, where government troops have launched a major offensive against the Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters who carry out cross-border attacks on US forces deployed in the Afghan province of Kunner.
At least 13 insurgents were killed in the action, the Geo news channel reported, citing official sources.
