Presently this service is available on limited handsets including Motorazr V3C, Samsung Wideo and Motorola World Phone. According to company sources the service will later on be accessible on other handsets also. Presently the service only charges Rs 25 for 15 days and this is a good facility to the consumers where FM service has not reached.
The mobile internet radio live will provide various channels from all across the world including some popular ones like BBC, CNN, ESPN, Bloomberg and a complete package of sports, news and entertainment with music channels of Indian languages like Hindi, Telugu, Bengali and Tamil.
Looking at the popularity of FM radio stations in metropolitan cities the internet radio service looks profitable for the company as Tata Indicom has already reached most of village areas in the country and this will further help in increasing their number of customers.
“We have identified mobile entertainment as a key growth driver and we are confident that this radio services will help us expand our market reach and drive new revenues” said Pankaj Seth president of value added service, Tata Teleservice Ltd.
The cut throat competition in the teleservices sector and big players like Reliance, Hutch, Aircell, Idea, MTNL, often calls for value additions. Companies are in the constant mode of providing new features and services to have an edge.
Keeping in mind the growing number of mobile users in India and the value of Tata Teleservice in the market as it covers all major cities, towns and villages in almost 20 states in India, this will be an advantage for the Tata Groups as it is now a front runner to provide such a service.
