PM, Sonia, Patil call up Buddha over blast
Kolkata, Nov 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi called up West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Monday and expressed concern over the landmine blast targeting his convoy a day earlier.
'Singh and Gandhi spoke to Bhattacharjee over phone and expressed their concern at the explosion,' an official at the state secretariat said.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil also telephoned Bhattacharjee and discussed steps to prevent a recurrence of such blasts. The chief minister and two union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitin Prasada had a close shave when a landmine blast hit a car in their convoy Sunday afternoon in East Midnapore district.
Meanwhile, the chief minister went to a private hospital in the city where four of the six policemen injured in the incident have been admitted.
