Bangladeshi man held in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, Nov 3 (IANS) A 30-year-old man from Bangladesh allegedly staying here illegally has been arrested, police said Monday.
The man, identified as Shakayat alias Shaukat Biko Mandar Sheikh, 30, was detained from the Chandola lake area at Maninagar here by city crime branch police sub-inspector J.M. Bharvad and his team Sunday, police said.
During interrogation Shakayat revealed he had come to Ahmedabad with his parents from Bangladesh some 10 to 12 years ago, crossing the border at Benapur Sadipur, they said.
According to police, after staying at Nawabna Chapra area of Shahalam in the old city of Ahmedabad he went back to Bangladesh. He then married Naseema and returned with her and their two-year-old son. He paid Rs.1,000 to Azad, a Bangladeshi agent who helped him cross the border via Nadinala through Benapur.
Despite being a Bangladeshi, Shakayat had procured a ration card and an election identity card here, police said, adding that further inquiries were on.
