New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) The Election Commission Monday appointed 530 observers to supervise the assembly polls in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Rajasthan and briefed them about their duty.

Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami and Election Commissioners Navin B. Chawla and S.Y. Quarishi briefed the observers and asked them to address complaints from the political parties and candidates immediately.

"They will supervise the process of election at all stages, that is, campaign, poll, counting of votes and declaration of results," the poll panel said in a statement here.

The observers will also supervise the preparation of electronic voting machines (EVMs), training of polling personnel and voter awareness programmes.

They were also advised to look into the deployment plan of the central police forces in their respective constituencies.

"They will also be examining the process of identification of critical polling stations and monitor the process of vulnerability mapping to identify the segments vulnerable to threat and intimidation," the statement said.

The observers have also been advised to make sure that the affidavits filed by the candidates at the time of nomination detailing their assets, qualifications, convictions and cases pending in courts, if any, are displayed prominently and made available for public scrutiny immediately.

They have also been advised to undertake extensive videography of all critical events that may take place during the election process and polling at sensitive polling stations.

Elections in Delhi, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will be held Nov 29, Dec 2, Nov 27 and Dec 4 respectively.
