Despite of government’s several efforts to contain inflation and food crises, the sky rocketing prices of food grains and essential commodities is going beyond the reach of common men.
But, a good news relating wheat can provide relief to government and public as department of food and public distribution has indicated to procure the wheat stock beyond the target.
According to release data from Department of Food and Public Distribution, “Government agencies have procured 154.2 lakh tonne wheat by May 1 as against 82.4 lakh tonne on the same day last year.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI), the Central government agency has procured 27.7 lakh tonnes of wheat while Punjab, the major contributor has put down 82.9 lakh tonne followed by Haryana 46.5 lakh tonne, Madhya Pradesh 9.5 lakh tonne, Uttar Pradesh 8.2 lakh tonne and Rajasthan 5.5 lakh tonne and Gujarat 1.1 lakh tonne.
However, Bihar, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Delhi have also procured the wheat, but the data of their procurement has not been available so far.
According to release data, the procurement process in the current season is much faster in the comparison to last year’s data. ‘This might be due to the current global food crisis going on across the world’, as per experts believe.
At present, ‘Whole world especially Africa, South America and Asia are facing huge crises of food grains’, United Nations organisations reveal this fact few days ago.
