Following the decision taken on April 22 meeting, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has called a nation-wide ‘aam hadtal’ (general strike) today. Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Thursday informed to media that the strike would go on its decided schedule, however only BJP has called the strike not the NDA allies, said Javadekar.

“All the allies parities have decided to protest separately,” said Javadekar to media.

Informing about the form of the strike, he said, “Party has asked to shopkeepers and business persons to close their establishment, not the chakkajam,” All the vehicles will allow commuting from dawn to dusting similar like other days, added Javadekar.

“The government offices and institutes even in BJP led states would not be forced to close,” said Prakash.

Responding the issue of strike, Javadekar said that UPA government has completely failed to tame the prices. “The announcement made by the UPA government is not proving effective….After 3-4 weeks of the announcement for curbing the price-control, the inflation is not declining to satisfactory level,” said Javadekar.

Criticising Manmohan Singh, Javedkar alleged that first Prime Minister should initiate to take the responsibility then to advice others and shift the work.

Describing about the strike agenda, Javadekar said, BJP has some demand which government should consider. “The government should consult to members of all parties’ representatives before reaching to any decision”. Moreover, “The government is trying to make a new index, the basket of 965 items, this would dilute the result of already existing Wholesale Price Index, the list of 435-commodities, which does not reflects the realty inflation over most essential and daily uses products,” said Javadekar.

“BJP is asking to make a separate consumer price index (CPI), the bucket of 50 essential commodities that will show the ground reality of the inflation,” informed party spokes person.

Party has also a demand to ease the pressure over common people to allow them to get 5 kg. of Daal and 5 litre of edible oil from the ration shop on the ration card prices to all common people include below poverty line and above poverty line.

“Party is also repeating its demand to reduce the import duties on petrol and diesels and also to review the price situation on weekly basis,” added Prakash.

On asking over other NDA allies, Javadekar told that all the parties of NDA allies in a meeting have decided to protest individually. So, on the decided schedule BJP has fulfilling its promise.

Earlier, on April 22 in a meeting headed by L K Advani, the major leaders of the party decided to call a nation-wide strike jointly. The NDA allies on April 24 had also surrounded the main parliament building by making a human chain for protesting the government on inflation issue.

Meanwhile, Sharad Yadav, the president of Janta Dal (United) has said that his party has already held an agitation over the issue of price rise earlier and hence would not be a part of tomorrow’s strike.
