Praja Rajyam comes in support of Telangana

Leaving ruling Congress the only obstacle in the creation of separate Telangana state, the actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi, founder of the newly set up Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), categorically stating his party’s stand on Telangana said that his party supports the cause of Telangana and would not come in the way of its formation.

“The right to the creation or bifurcation of states solely rests with the Centre. And if Centre goes for the fulfillment of separate Telangana state, his party will no be an obstacle at any cost,” the Praja Rajyam chief told a massive gathering at Jagityal in Karimnagar.

Praja Rajyam declaration on Friday resembled with the Cabinet’s decision given recognition to the Telugu- a classical language.

With Chiranjeevi’s back to the Telangana state, the issue once again has returned to the center-stage of the state politics in view of the ensuing elections. Now, except the ruling Congress, all parties have declared their support to the demand for the separate state.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), which was formed on the principle of separate Telangana state, had resigned from the Centre and the State on this issue, as it saw the Congress was not sincere in accepting its demand of separate state.

Telugu Desam Party, TDP, which had been opposing bifurcation of the state since the party’s formation in early 1980s, recently backed the demand for separate Telangana state and recently made a pre-election tie up with the TRS.

Before announcing the PRP’s stand on the Telangana, Chiranjeevi slammed all political parties for taking the political mileage of the issue.

He also ridiculed the Congress for saying the party would take a decision at an appropriate time. “When would that appropriate time come?” he asked.

He also appealed to everyone to create pressure on the government to expedite the process.

Chiranjeevi’s support to the Telangana may lead to some alteration in the political equation of the Andhra Pradesh prior to elections.
