NCC soon to be in new private schools

New Delhi, Tue, 29 Apr 2008 NI Wire

Days are not so far when all the new private schools having classes VIII to X/XII under self Financing scheme will be armed with National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing.

The Central Advisory Committee of the National Cadet Corps has proposed today to introduce NCC in all new private schools.

While talking to media after attending the 44th meeting of the NCC Committee, Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju informed that the department has recommended for provisions to be made for NCC junior division/junior wing in the private schools having classes VIII to X/XII at the time of application for registration by the education boards.

“The plan can be initially rolled out for CBSE and ICSE affiliated schools and later extended to schools under the state education boards,” he said.

The plans will be implemented after Ministry of Human Resources and Development (HRD) gives green signal to incorporate these provisions in the registration norms of new private schools so that the large number of children studying in private schools can also benefit from NCC programme.

It was also recommended in the meeting to shift the State of Himachal Pradesh from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate to Uttarakhand Directorate.

The move will lead to better monitoring of NCC activities in the Hill State of Himachal Pradesh besides other administrative conveniences.

National Cadet Corps having motto ‘Unity and Discipline’ is a tri-services organisation including the Army, Navy, and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens.

The origin of NCC can be traced back to the ' University Corps' which was created under the Indian Defence Act 1917, with the object to make up the shortage of the defence services.

The meeting was also attended by Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal FH Major, DG NCC Lt Gen Prakash Singh Chaudhary and other members of the committee.
