Ghaziabad, Oct 30 (IANS) A woman who was in a live-in relationship was shot dead by her brother in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad district, a police official said Thursday.
Priyanka, 27, was shot thrice by her brother Sonu in Hapur town of Ghaziabad district late Wednesday.
'We are making efforts to arrest Sonu who is involved in several criminal cases of heinous nature at various places in Western Uttar Pradesh and Delhi,' said Jagdish Sharma, superintendent of police (rural), Ghaziabad.
'He (Sonu) was angry over his sister Priyanka's affair with a boy in Dehradun with whom she started living in a pre-marital relationship, while he was in jail,' he added.
Priyanka had gone to her maternal uncle's home in Asora locality of Hapur Wednesday afternoon to observe Bhai Dooj (a celebration of brother-sister relationship) with her cousin brother.
At about 10 p.m., Sonu reached the uncle's home and shot her thrice with a country-made revolver after having an argument with her.
The police have registered a case of murder against Sonu, who is absconding.
