PM congratulates Viswanathan Anand on winning World Chess Championship
New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Thursday congratulated Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand on winning the World Chess Championship.
In his message, the Prime Minister said Anand has made the country proud with his exemplary performance and with his dedication and consistency has set a stellar example to all sportspersons in the country.
Anand beat Kramnik 6.5-4.5 with one game to spare in the 12-game match in Bonn, Germany Wednesday. That helped the Indian Grandmaster retain the title he won in the Linares-Morelia Linares tournament last year. It also makes him the first player to win the official World title in three formats.
The win by a huge margin will also carry Anand to the top of the World Rankings when they are released next.
