Uproar in Parliament over rising inflation

New Delhi, Fri, 25 Apr 2008 NI Wire

Piercing the pseudo balloon of United Progressive Alliance’s ‘Blazing India’ due to higher growth rate despite of skyrocketing prices of food grains, the National Democratic Alliance, the opposition coalition led by Bhartiya Janta Party today protested government’s failure for taming the higher inflation rate and decreasing the price rises in the essential food grains before the parliament.

In the leadership of L K Advani who is also the leader of opposition in Lok Sabha on April 25 the parliamentarians surrounded the Lok Sabha premises by making human chain and cited the slogan against government’s assertion of ‘pro-aam admi’ government.

“If you can’t stop price rise, then you should quit and the country should go in for fresh polls,” asked Advani while addressing the protestors outside the parliament. “The opposition is ready for the challenge.”

Calling it ‘the making of silent tsunami’, Advani added, “The NDA is deeply concerned at this unprecedented situation and holds the Congress party responsible for it. The situation, if unaddressed, could cause widespread starvation and hunger-related deaths.”

Despite of government’s assertion of gaining higher growth rate, the prices of most common and basic commodities are going far ahead from the poor people and ‘common man’, alleged Advani. “The poor who already take insufficient nutrition has been forced to intake less food, that can lead them towards starvation”, said Advani. “The skyrocketing price of cement and steel has made a dream to build a house for the common men.” added Advani.

The protestors were wearing apron stating the slogan against the government like “Congress Bhagao, Menhgai Hato (Pull out Congress, eliminate Inflation) and “Congress-Communist, Menhgai ke Jimmedar (Congress and Communist, liable for inflation).

Pulling the legs of leftist and other coalition parties supporting from outside to UPA, BJP leader said that the coalition was opportunistic and only organised to keep the NDA out from the ruling.

After protesting the government and making human chain, all the protestors entered in the two Houses accordingly. But inside the parliament during question hour session, the opposition leaders kept on uproaring. Finally Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the house till 2:00 clock, while the Rajya Sabha has also been adjourned till afternoon.

But, after the demonstration outside the parliament, L K Advani has reiterated BJP’s assertion to launch a countrywide protest from May 02.

Besides leaders of the Opposition L. K. Advani and Jaswant Singh, several other members were also gathered in demonstration including BJP president Rajnath Singh, Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav, NDA convener George Fernandes and leaders and MPs of the Shiv Sena, the Akali Dal and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

According to Wholesale price index (WPI), the measuring agency for inflation has reported the inflation rate at 7.41% for the end of March month that slightly declined to 7.14% in the first week of April due to some instant measure of government to curb inflation.
