Bahujan Samaj Party leader arrested for murder

Lucknow, Oct 30 (IANS) A leader of the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and his five supporters were arrested Thursday for allegedly murdering a youth in an Uttar Pradesh village, the police said.

 

The incident took place in Tikonia village in Lakhimpur district, some 150 km from Lucknow, the police said.

 

 

'A leader with the BSP's district wing Akhilesh Gupta Wednesday fired at a local shopkeeper Chetram after he refused to give extortion money,' district police chief Ram Bharose told IANS.

 

 

Supporters of Gupta also manhandled several local shopkeepers who came to rescue Chetram, the police said.
