The eroded law and order of Orissa capital Bhubaneswar has been surfaced from the recent murder of Judo coach Biranchi Das and further the distressed political circle with oppositions’ demand of stringent action against the involved top cops in this case.
While the opposition parties in the state demanded government to arrest IPS and IAS officers mixed up in the police-criminal nexus, the police on Tuesday got a boost when dramatically Akshay Behera alias Chagala—a close associate of the prime suspect Raja Acharya surrendered himself to the police in Bhopal.
The criminal surrendered before the Bhopal police on Tuesday and has been brought to Bhubaneswar on Thursday for interrogation. Chagala, who has many pending cases against him reportedly admitted his involvement in the crime, however, at the same time claimed no connection with Raja. This has further put police in confusion that has been in search for Acharya since last week with no trace.
Meanwhile, the police are of the belief that the custody of Chagla could help in revealing the real motive of the murder and involvement of other influential persons. He has been brought to Orissa under transit remand.
Police has also arrested a person named Saroj Kumar Sahu alias Tukuna but the police is yet to made a link up between him with Biranchi Das’s murder.
The states CPI (M) for the moment has threatened the government of launching a statewide agitation in order to solve the case as early as possible.
Biranchi Das, the former coach of marathon child Budhia Singh was shot dead on April 13 outside Orissa Judo Association Club in Bhubaneswar. The capital police then on assertion of victim’s wife and brother had launched search operation for Raja Acharya.
