S. Kang and Rashid Khan jointly share the second spot after carding an identical 72. They are trailing behind the leader by only one-stroke.
Kapil had a perfect start as he came up with a birdie on the opening hole but soon messed it up with successive bogeys on the next two holes. Another bogey on the fifth guaranteed that Kapil took the turn at two-over.
However, spirited Kapil amended his mistakes and came back strongly with a birdie on the 14th, 15th and 18th. The 15-year-old kid ended the day on a positive note and proved to be a likely threat to the many reputable players on the amateur circuit.
SCORES (DAY-1): Kapil Kumar 71, Sourav Bahuguna, Amanjyot Singh, S. Rudresh, H.S. Kang, Rashid Khan 72; Abhishek Jha, S.K. Lakra, Pawan Kumar, Kanishk Madan and Rahul Sikand 73.
