PM to inaugurate the Civil Service Day 2008
With the theme `Innovations in Administration', the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will today inaugurate the third Civil Service Day here at in Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The PM Award for Excellence in Public Administration will also be given away to 13 innovative administrative practices.
April 21 has been marked down as the Civil Service Day since 2006 and been an occasion for all civil servants to rededicate themselves to the cause of citizen and refurbish their commitment to public service and excellence in work.

This year the Prime Minister will give the `PM Award for Excellence in Public Administration' for the year 2006–07 to 13 outstanding imaginative initiatives from different States, Ministries and organisations.
Earlier in 2007 on the Second Civil Service Day two administrative practices ‘Bhoomi’ from the State of Karnataka and ‘Communitization of Public Institutions and Services in Nagaland’ were awarded for the same.
Prime Minister will also release a commemorative postal stamp on Civil Service, inaugurate an exhibition on `Innovations in Administration' and will release a book titled "Splendour in the Grass". Compiled by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances; the book covers various innovations successfully tried out by different government, national and international organisations.
A film titled `Making a Difference' which is a collection of innovations undertaken across the country, will also be screened.
After the inauguration, the technical session would commence with a talk by Comptroller and Auditor General on `Decision Making in Government: Role of Audit'. Further, there are parallel Panel Discussions on - `Recruitment and Training in Civil Service'; `Performance Appraisal of Civil Servants' and `Readiness of Civil Service to meet current challenges'.
The event is organised by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances every year inviting representatives from all the 61 All India and Central Civil Services.
