Police-criminal nexus surfaces in Biranchi Das murder case

The brutal murder of Biranchi Das, former coach of marathon boy Budhia Singh, in Bhubaneswar, capital of Orissa, have put the state government in a tight spot over the alleged nexus between police and criminals that cropped up after state’s police incapability to nab the prime suspect thus far.

The Orissa police have yet to find the key suspect, a local gang leader Raja Acharya after four days of the incident. There seems a strong link between the criminal and some high-level police officers that is preventing to take proper action in this case.

The state chief minister Naveen Patnaik also showed his keenness and has asked a report from the DGP and on that basis the administration would take apposite steps against the policemen. The DGP of twin-city Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Binaya Behera too has indicated to take stern action if any official found guilty.

Police had started their investigation after Das’s wife and brother named local goon Raja for possible involvement. But police is still clueless about his whereabouts as it is assumed that there might be some information leak that led the criminal to escape from his hide out before the police would have reached there in time.

The city police so far have invited severe criticism from locals and opposition parties for their inability and at the same time the murder of such a high-profile personality in the state capital further worsen the ruling party on the verge after Gayatri Panda sexual slur involving former state assembly speaker Maheshwar Mohanty.

Biranchi Das who has always been in news since his adoption of Budhia Singh and phasing him to be the child wonder by completing an unusual marathon of 65kms run from Puri to Bhubaneshwar in just seven hours at one go and then accusation of torturing the boy and exploiting him for personal gain ended with a new controversy over his connection with a gangster and the alleged link with an Oriya actress.

Well, whatever the reason left upon the investigation to find out but the new controversy of police-criminal link-up is surely going to hound the BJD-BJP alliance government as the opposition are not willing to leave any chance at the time when the state may go for an early assembly elections.
