Lahiri slips to 12th at Macau Open golf

Macau, Oct 25 (IANS) Struck down by an early triple bogey on the fifth hole, Indian rookie Anirban Lahiri (73) slipped from overnight second to tied 12th at the end of the third round of the Macau Open golf here Saturday.

 

The 22-year-old Lahiri is now seven-under 206 and nine shots behind the leader Australian David Gleeson.

 

 

Overnight leader Gleeson remained on top of the field with Chinese Taipei's Kao Bo-song in hot pursuit after the third round. The Australian carded a two-under-par 69 for a two-day total of 16-under-par 197 while Kao was two strokes adrift after a solid 65 at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

 

 

Kao enjoyed a solid finish by firing a birdie on the 17th hole followed by an eagle at the par five 18th hole to remain close behind the leader.

 

 

Lahiri was the best Indian in 12th, while Digvijay Singh (69) moved up from 58th to 33rd at three-under 210. Gaganjeet Bhullar, who closed with an eagle shot 72 and was tied 37th along with Rahil Gangjee (71) at two-under 211.

 

 

Gaurav Ghei (73) had two double bogeys, but he also finished with three birdies on the trot and was lying 51st at even par.

 

 

It was a windy third day and it played havoc with the scores. Gleeson tackled the par-71 course by firing four birdies against two bogeys for a two-stroke advantage heading into the final day.

 

 

Thai youngster Wisut Artjanawat posted a 68 and was in a tie for third place alongside rookie Steven Tiley of England who nailed a 65 in the $500,000 Asian Tour event.

 

 

Australia's Tony Carolan and Chinese Taipei's Chan Yih-shin shot identical 67s and were in joint fifth spot together with Lin Wen-tang and England's Yasin Ali who posted matching 70s.
