Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism talks between India, Pak today
New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): India and Pakistan will hold a special session of the Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism (JATM) here today, in which investigations in the terror attack on Indian Mission in Kabul are likely to figure prominently.
The Indian side will be led by Vivek Katju, Special Secretary (International Organisations) in the External Affairs Ministry while the Pakistani delegation will be headed by Aizaz Ahmad Choudhary, Additional Secretary (South Asia) in the Pakistan Foreign Ministry.
The decision for holding meeting was taken earlier when Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari met in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly
In a joint statement issued after the New York meeting, it was declared that a special meeting of the JATM would be held in October 2008 to address mutual concerns, including the bombing of the Indian Embassy in Kabul.
Three meetings of the JATM have been held so far.
The JATM was conceived by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on the sidelines of the NAM Summit in Cuba a few years ago to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism and to assist each other by exchanging information about any terror incidents. (ANI)
