Maharashtra Police quiz Raj Thackeray for 'inciting' riots

Thane/Patna, Oct 24 (ANI): The Maharashtra Police quizzed Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray for "inciting" riots against north-Indians.

Thackeray appeared before the police at a police station in Thane."We cannot tell you anything about the investigations as the case in under process. Thackeray came here along with four to five lawyers. We requested him that only two counsels can accompany him. The court had asked us to interrogate him for one hour and we have done that," said P.Y. Sardar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thane.

Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar convened an all-party meet in Patna, a day after a ten-year-old boy was killed when police opened fire on protesters as rioters set trains alight and blocked roads in retaliation for attacks on migrants in Maharashtra.

"We have come to a unanimous decision that all party members will meet Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Home Minister Shivraj Patil and request them to take stringent action against such group," said Nitish Kumar.

The Mumbai Police had arrested Thackeray from a guest house in Ratnagiri after a case was registered against him following Sunday's attack by MNS workers on North Indian candidates appearing in a rail exam in suburb Kherwadi.

Raj has been charged under Sections 153, 353, 336, 425 and 427 of IPC, police sources said.

His arrest has triggered violence across Maharashtra, with the police resorting to lathi-charge in several parts to dispel the protesters. (ANI)
