Displaced villagers set fire to cement factory

Ranchi, Oct 23 (IANS) Villagers demanding compensation and jobs, which they said had been promised in exchange of their land, Thursday set fire to a cement factory under construction in Jharkhand, police said.
According to the police, hundreds of villagers gathered near Boratand village in Bokaro district, some 140 Km from Ranchi and set fire to the JP Cement factory.

The villagers alleged that they had not been given the compensation and jobs that they had been promised in the factory in exchange of their land.
In the fire, one car, 45 beds and temporary houses built for the labourers were gutted.
'We have suffered a loss of more than Rs.5 million in the fire,' a company official said.
