Indian racing sportspersons are surely getting the much-needed momentum for the moment as the latest to hit on the block is the 17 year-old Chennai kid Ashwin Sundar, who has become the latest Indian entrant in Formula racing.

Ashwin inked up a three-year sponsorship deal with the MaCon Motor Sports team to race in the German Formula Volkswagen ADAC Championship. The German Formula Volkswagen ADAC championship 2008 consists of eight rounds that will be held on various circuits in Germany.

Ashwin was lucky enough to get the nod as there was only one of two selected from eight candidates picked up from Europe and Asia following a two-day test at the team's own 2.7-km circuit in Berlin.

Ashwin, National champion in the Formula LGB Swift Class, is among the eight shortlisted drivers chosen after three testing sessions held on February 28 and 29 after putting in to a test in a 165 bhp Formula Konig cars running on Volkswagen engines for evaluation.

Ashwin last year claim two titles in separate classes of JK Tyre National Racing Championship while he was also adjudged Champion of Champions in 2006 following his victories in the two-wheeler section besides Formula Swift and Hyundai classes.

"It is a really a dream come true and I never expected that it would come so soon to me. I am thankful to JK Tyre and Ram's Racing for providing me such a good platform,” said visibly elated Ashwin.

“I am also thankful to MaCon Motor Sports for picking me and looking forward to do my best for the team," Ashwin added.

After this deal Ashwin is now eyeing on the 2010 Formula 3 European series. "I will be joining F3 German series from next year, and will try to be amongst the top three in the upcoming championship," Ashwin said.

Ashwin’s racing talent has been highlighted when he won the overall championship last year on his debut in the Formula Rolon-Chevrolet class while driving for Ram's Racing team.

The owner of the MaCon Motor Sports team, Marian Hamprecht said, "We are pleased to have Ashwin Sundar in our team for the next three years. He has shown huge talent by winning the testing sessions held in Germany.”

“His progress has been clearly evident and culminated into his successful entry into the team,” Hamprecht added.
