Europe, Wed, 22 Oct 2008 IANS

Vienna, Oct 22 (RIA Novosti) A single-engine light sport aircraft crashed on the roof of the Austrian Cobra special police headquarters near the capital, killing the pilot and the passenger, media reported Wednesday.

The accident occurred in Wiener Neustadt, about 50 km from Vienna at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The crash caused a fire on the building's roof, a Cobra official told journalists. No officer in the building was injured.

The aircraft, which had flown from Germany, was destroyed. It took firefighters several hours to put off the flame.

A parachute was found on the roof, suggesting that one of the victims had unsuccessfully tried to eject from the plane.
