Suspected terror financier jailed for 14 days

Ahmedabad, Oct 21 (IANS) A court here Tuesday jailed for 14 days a suspected terrorist who allegedly financed the 2002 terrorist attack on the Akshardham temple.

 

Majid Patel was arrested Monday from Tankaria, in Bharuch district, police said.

 

 

The police had sought his custody to unravel his source of funds for the attack, in which 30 people were killed and 40 injured.

 

 

Judge Jyotsana Yagnik allowed the police to interrogate Majid till Nov 3.

 

 

Majid was absconding after the terror attack in September 2002, having allegedly escaped to Saudi Arabia.

 

 

Three persons have been sentenced to death for their role in the attack. The police have also declared 25 others accused as absconders.
