3G spectrum auction to happen on time: Raja
New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS) The third generation (3G) radio waves auction will be completed by Jan 15, 2009 as per schedule, Communications and IT Minister A. Raja said here Tuesday.
"The 3G auction will be completed by January 15 and the operators will have to pay up by January 31," Raja told reporters on the sidelines of a conference.

He said there will be no change in the timeline unless the finance ministry voluntary wanted to do so.
"The timeline is subject to little bit of changes due to Christmas holidays. But, there is neither delay nor we are pushing it," Raja said.
Asked if the revenue generated from the 3G auction will be affected by the economic recession, he said: "There may be little jerk, but we are not thinking about money."
India plans to hold a global auction of radio spectrum for 3G and 4G wireless services simultaneously by December, from which it hopes to raise up to Rs.400 billion ($8.2 billion).
The government has appointed US bank Rothschild to conduct the auction.
