Patna/Ranchi/Mumbai/Agra, Oct 21 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has urged the Central Government to take action against activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) for their latest attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra.

MNS activists attacked a railway examination centre in Mumbai and also pelted stones at North Indian people who had come to take the examination at Thane Station on Sunday. umar also asked the Central Government to safeguard citizen's rights.

"It is the responsibility of the Central Government to not merely remain the silent spectator, should act when people of a region are harassed and safeguard citizen's rights of the people as per the Indian Constitution," said Kumar.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev also condemned the sectarian attacks.

"One who aims to forward his political interests and condemns the national interest by trying to divide the country on the basis of language or region, and the one who targets innocents, is a traitor. And nobody should be given the liberty to try and break the unity and integrity for their political interests, be it an individual or political party," he said in Ranchi.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, facing flak for not prosecuting and reining in the firebrand MNS chief Raj Thackeray, assured that police would act against vandals.

"We have issued orders to police to take action against those found guilty. We condemn the incident," said Deshmukh said in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, activists of Bajrang Dal staged a demonstration in Agra and burnt effigy of Thackeray.

"Beating Indians in such a way is very unfortunate and protests against this should be held at various places. Raj Thackeray should be tried for indulging in anti-national activities," said Ram Kumar, a Bajrang Dal activist.

This is not the first time that the North Indian community has been targeted by MNS activists. In February, the MNS activists got violent against migrant labourers from North India. (ANI)
