New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a reminder to Delhi Police to submit a report on the Sep 19 shootout in Jamia Nagar here in which two alleged terrorists were killed.
The commission had on Sep 23 asked police to submit the report on the incident within two weeks but has not yet heard from them.
Kamran Siddiqui of the NGO Real Cause alleged that the shootout at the Batla House in Jamia Nagar of south Delhi could have been 'fabricated'. Based on the complaint, the commission issued a notice to Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and sought a report.
'While the commission has not yet heard from Delhi Police, in the meanwhile Siddiqui got in touch with us on Oct 14 saying that a team of the special cell of Delhi Police had the day before made a special visit to L-18 Batla House, where the shootout occurred, and stayed there for two hours,' an NHRC official told IANS Monday.
'The commission had thereafter decided to send a reminder to the Delhi Police commissioner directing him to transit the post-mortem report of Atif and Sajid - the two alleged terrorists who were killed in the shootout - and that of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma who was also killed and the inquest reports,' the official said.
The two alleged terrorists were suspected to be involved in the Sep 13 Delhi serial bombings here, in which 26 people killed.
While two other suspected terrorists escaped, one was arrested.
The commission has asked police to state whether a magisterial enquiry has been ordered in the matter and if so, what its status is.
It also asked them if a criminal case regarding the incident has been registered and what its status is and if any special team of the police did visit the spot Oct 13, as alleged, and if so, what the purpose of the visit was.
The commission has asked Dadwal to submit the complete report latest by Oct 31 for its consideration.
