Rescued animals' pugmarks, celebrity kids' brushstrokes - all for a cause

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Paintings by children of eminent personalities - some bearing pugmarks of rescued animals - were on display here Sunday as part of the 'India on Canvas - Junior' event, a fundraiser and charity auction for underprivileged and destitute children.

 

Renee Sen, Rasha Thadani, Amiya Dev, Agastya and Navya Naveli Nanda, and Om and Lakshmie Walia - children of Sushmita Sen, Raveena Tandon Thadani, Kapil Dev, Shweta Bachchan Nanda and Manpreet Brar Walia respectively - showcased their works of art for the fundraiser at the French embassy.

 

 

They prepared a total of 141 canvases in collaboration with renowned and upcoming artists like Devyani Parikh, Gunjan Cowlagi, Sanjay Kumar, Binoy Vergese, Dharmendra Rathore, Sidharth, Usha Biswas, Meena Deora, Sarla Chandra and Sudip Roy, among others.

 

 

However, only 10 paintings, including five with footprints of rescued bears and elephants, were put on auction with a reserve price of Rs.10,000 each.

 

 

'The animals were rescued from madaris on the Delhi-Agra highway by (non-profit charity) Wildlife SOS,' animal rights activist and former central minister Maneka Gandhi told IANS.

 

 

Five more paintings on auction were brushed by children from various NGOs including Khushii's educational project Shikshaantra, Salam Balak Trust, Pratham, Bal Bihar and SOS Village. Khushii conceptualised the show

 

 

The money raised from the auction will go to the NGOs while that raised from the fundraiser will go to Shikshaantra.
