Explosion in police station, six cops injured

Lucknow, Oct 19 (IANS) Six policemen were injured in a blast in a police station in Uttar Pradesh Sunday evening, officials said.

 

The blast took place in the Unchahar police station in Rae Bareli district, some 120 km from here at around 7.30 p.m.

 

 

'A huge cache of illegal fire crackers were recovered and the blast took place when the policemen were keeping the explosives in the godown of the police station,' Rae Bareli Superintendent of Police, Tarun Gaba told IANS.

 

 

'Four home guards and two constables received burn injuries,' Gaba said.

 

 

'No arrests have been made so far and the drive (to recover illegal fire crackers) is being carried out throughout the state,' Gaba added.

 

 

The Uttar Pradesh police chief has directed the police heads of the districts to launch a drive against those illegally selling fire crackers after a two people died in a blast in the state capital Friday.

 

 

The victims were carrying huge amount of fire crackers on a motorcycle when it skidded, causing a massive explosion in the Chinhat locality.
