At least two people were confirmed dead and over 15 others injured when a part of under-construction Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) flyover collapsed in East Delhi’s Laxminagar-Shakarpur area on Sunday morning.
Reportedly, the incident that occurred at around 7.05 am has trapped many including a blueline bus (Route No. 39) with its driver and several passengers on boards. The driver of the bus has confirmed dead.
Soon after the accident, fire teams and ambulance reached at the site, and with immediate rescue operation, several injured have been admitted in the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital.
Delhi Police has taken over the rescue operation and at least 10 people have been rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, the official added.
Meanwhile, the upset that occurred due to some technical lapses as said by Director Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Vijay Anand has directed for an inquiry.
The DMRC authority has also announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for each dead and Rs. 50,000 for the injured.
‘This has happened for the first time in the decade-old history of Delhi Metro that has a very good track record and an inquiry has been placed for the possible engineering failure,' said a DMRC official.
