Over 65 dead, north India burns due to intense heat waves
June 11: The northern, central and western India is witnessing severe heat waves, which has already mounted the death toll to 65, in the scorching summer.

In the national capital Delhi, the maximum temperature is still over 44 degrees C. The meteorological department and weather forecasting agencies have not given any assurance for the decrease in the temperature.
From the morning the half stirred people are worried and doubt the department reports. Some residents from North Delhi were out on the streets as the power cuts last night added to their worries. Reportedly some citizens had taken to the streets and expressed sharp criticism over meteorological department reports. Sushil Kumar (name changed) from a locality in north Delhi even abused the agencies for not providing the right figures. “The government does not reveal real statistics as it might result in emergency. Poor people and homeless will continue to die, at least in this part of the world.”
According to Met Deptt. the unbearable heat wave across most of the north and west India will continue at least for this week with temperatures over 40 degrees C. In north India it is the humidity which creates much discomfort.
From the last five days Delhi is recorded over a temperature over 44 degrees Celsius. Today it is recorded as 45 degrees C. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday was 44 which is little less than Saturday’s 44.9 degree C.
Temperature in other parts of North and western India is on rise with high of 46 degrees Celsius in Amritsar (Punjab), Ahmedabad (41), Bhopal (42.7), Nagpur (42) and Sriganganagar (Rajasthan) while the high was 45.5 degrees Celsius in Hissar in Haryana.
However, Meteorological Department has indicated that eastern bound winds might cool down the temperature in Delhi.
Meanwhile, the eastern India is out of intense heat after heavy rain in some part of Orissa and Bihar. The maximum temperature there is less than 35 degrees C and in some parts it is below 30.
