Trooper killed in Jharkhand gunbattle with Maoists

Ranchi, Oct 18 (IANS) A paramilitary trooper was killed and two were injured in a gun battle with Maoist guerrillas Saturday evening in Jharkhand's Chatra district, police said.

 

According to the police, suspected rebels of Communist Party of India-Maoist ambushed a vehicle carrying Central Reserve Police Force personnel on a Long Range Patrol (LRP) near Bora Sarif village of Chatra district, around 260 km from here.

 

 

The gun battle between the security personnel and Maoist rebels lasted for over two hours.

 

 

One trooper was killed and two were injured in the gun battle. The injured were taken to a hospital in Chatra district.

 

 

Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the state's 24 districts. Over 1,300 people, including civilians and Maoist rebels, have been killed in the state in the last seven years.
