Indian fashion designers want to unite

New Delhi, Sat, 18 Oct 2008 ANI

New Delhi, Oct 18 (ANI): Indian fashion designers said that they are lobbying hard to merge the two split-fashion entities -- Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) and Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) that had branched out after they failed to agree over sponsorship issues way back in 2006.

India's top designers and a troop of sashaying models are taking part in the 'Wills India Fashion Week' where designers are showcasing their spring and summer collections for 2008 at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

Designers Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna unveiling their collection in different hues said that they had experimented with colours for the first time.

"The show is over after two months of hard work. The collection was called 'Ode to joy' which was a blast of colours," said Khanna.

Khanna is predicting a lot of colours for the next summer season.

While the designers are vying to catch the attention of up to 80 international buyers during the five-day extravaganza, they feel that the fashion fraternity should get together and try to reunite.

Gandhi said that he is in touch with other top designers like Rohit Bal and is talking to the organisers as well to make them understand the fact that India is not as yet ready for so many fashion shows.

"It was lovely working with all these amazing people, but the only thing which we are sad about is the two fashion weeks. I think Delhi and India is not ready for so much. Today, Rohit Bal every one being here I went to show solidarity. We all are going to meet up and make it into one fashion week," said Gandhi.

Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) is the first independently organised by fashion accessories major, Lakme. It involves events like media seminars, business-to-business meetings and a buyers' forum, apart from the regular fashion shows.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is holding another fashion week, the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

Lakme used to sponsor the 'India Fashion Weeks'. However, it branched off on its own after FDCI announced it would be holding separate fashion weeks for the spring/summer and fall/winter collections from 2006 and the two organisations could not agree to the sponsorship amount for the events.
