European Union Film Festivals to be held in April
Five Indian cities will get to taste the flavour of European movies in coming European Union Film Festival to be held in the month of April.
The theme of this year’s film festival is “Unity in Diversity” which will garner Indian audiences with exclusive and famous contemporary films from EU member nation from April 1-7 in New Delhi, April 7-17 in Chennai, April 10-16 in Kolkata, April 17-20 in Kozhikode and from April 24-30 in Pune.
The film festival is a part of EU-India strategic partnership established at the 6th EU-India Summit in September 2005. The bouquet consists of 21 films of 20 member nations. The films to be screened are of different genre including comedy, thriller and drama; those films have already won accolades and some of them have won prestigious prizes too.
The festival in a way has become a celebration of European art and culture and its importance has increased by many folds when this year is dedicated as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, 2008.
The films that will be screened are Short Circuits (Slovenia), I Am (Poland), Kids in da Hood (Sweden), FC Venus (Finland), Waiter (Netherlands), On the Other Side of the Bridge (Austria), Yella (Germany), After the Wedding (Denmark), Its Spring in Prague Every Year (Czech Republic), Two Syllables Behind (Slovak Republic), You and Me (France), Ultranova and Long Weekend (Belgium), Eighth Day of the Week (Hungary), Last of the High Kings (Ireland), Golden Beach (Estonia), Occident (Romania), Bye Bye Blackbird (Luxembourg), Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of a Manic Depressive (UK), Honey and Wine (Cyprus) and Fiction (Spain).
Government of NCT of Delhi, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi; Nandan, the West Bengal Film Centre, Kolkata; Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Kozhikode; National Film Archive of India, Pune and ICA Foundation in Association with South India Film Chamber of Commerce, Chennai together have worked to bring this ‘feast for eyes’ festival.
