Raipur, Oct 17 (IANS) The Election Commission has asked the Chhattisgarh government to replace Maoist insurgency hit Bijapur's district collector, officials said Friday.
Officials said that the government received the instructions late Thursday for the transfer of L.S. Ken, who is also Bijapur's district election officer. He has been called back to the state secretariat.
Manish Tyagi, deputy secretary, mining, has been asked to immediately join as district collector, Bijpaur, which is based in the state's extreme southern region.
The Maoist-infested state goes to polls in two phases - Nov 14 and 20 - to elect a new 90 member state assembly.
The commission has set up 20,952 polling stations in Chhattisgarh where 15,207,734 voters will be able to exercise their franchise. In the first phase, 39 assembly segments will go to polls while 51 seats will see election in the second phase.
