New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS) After having dressed up Hollywood stars like Demi Moore, Halle Berry, Jennifer Aniston and Katie Holmes, New York-based designer Vivienne Tam displayed her talent at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), where models set the ramp on fire with her peony inspired collection.

'Peony is my favourite flower and everyone loves it. It is very colourful and vibrant and gives a very happy feeling. There was no particular reason for taking it as a theme, I just thought of it and went ahead,' Tam told IANS after the show here Wednesday evening.

'The flower signifies fortune, prosperity and happiness - and that is what everyone wants,' she added.

Tam was here as part of a promotional campaign of one of the fashion week sponsors - IT major Hewlett Packard. The company's special edition notebooks designed by her also have peony imprints on it.

According to the designer, the notebooks are apt for working women since they are lightweight and attractive.

'I am sure that women of today will love this edition because it is quite feminine. The whole idea was to give life and colour to the collection in such a way that it looks stylish, smart and sexy to match the requirements of a smart working woman,' Tam said.

Peony prints and red colour dominated the spring/summer line that had a beautiful range of chiffon shirts, trench coats, dresses with floral applique, chiffon tuxedo dresses, tulle dresses, beaded dresses with cutwork and cotton wrap skirts.

'Red is my favourite colour and that is pretty visible in my collection. Even though I have used a bit of colours like mauve, pink, beige and cream but the happiness I get from red is amazing,' Tam said.

Born in China, the designer's collection suited the Indian complexion perfectly and she admitted that the influence of Chinese culture played a pivotal role.

'India and China are very much alike in terms of culture. I didn't pay special attention to make this line different, I just went with the flow and thanks to the similarities of the two cultures, the colours suited Indian skin very well,' she said.

It was after 10 years that the designer visited India and she seemed to be impressed by the way Indian designers are going places.

'I had come here 10 years ago to buy some fabric and that time the Indian fashion industry was in its growing stage, but today when I see around there is so much of talent and there is a lot that I have to learn from Indian designers,' Tam said.
