Pak nuclear scientist Dr AQ Khan, wife move IHC urging for freedom

Islamabad, Wed, 15 Oct 2008 ANI

Islamabad, Oct 15 (ANI): Pakistan nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and his wife have reportedly filed an application before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) requesting that they may be allowed to appear in person before the court to pursue their petitions.

The application will come up for hearing on Wednesday, said a senior High Court official.

Filed by Barrister M. Javed Iqbal Jafferi on behalf of Dr Khan and his wife Hendrina Khan, the application contended that the IHC orders relaxing restrictions on the movement of Dr Khan were not being implemented by the concerned authorities.

Both, Khan and his wife have been alleging that even after the Government had set the nuclear scientist free, his movements were still restricted and he was not even allowed to meet his friends and relatives. They also allege that their phones were being tapped.

During former president Pervez Musharraf's regime, Khan was accused of transferring nuclear knowhow to other countries, including Iran, North Korea and Libya. He was kept under house arrest for several years. But, soon after assuming power six months back, the present PPP-led federal government had freed him from house arrest. (ANI)
