New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) Red, black and white bandanas crowned the heads of the female models at designer Raghavendra Rathore's show at the Delhi Fashion Week (DFW) late Tuesday evening - as a sign of mass solidarity against the violence rocking various parts of the country.
'I used bandanas as a protest against violence. There was no literal sense to it but just a thought. I didn't want to talk about it with the media first and then I thought why not? So much is happening in our country and this was my way of condemning violence,' Rathore told IANS after the show.
The bandanas were only in red, black and white because they either matched or were in contrast to the colours of the outfits he showcased as part of his spring/summer collection.
Apart from this concern over violence in India, Rathore also emphasised on the use of home grown cotton fabric that he extensively used in his collection.
'I have used pure cotton fabric that is easily available in the market for my clothes. Cotton can be a super luxury fabric if used in a proper way. Instead of using European fabrics, I feel we must use our own fabrics and showcase and promote them on the runway,' Rathore maintained.
The designer's colour pallette was subdued and was dominated by red, black and white, except for some outfits that were in burgundy, military green and silver.
The collection for men included Asian inspired long shirts, fitted or very loose trousers, tailored and unstructured jackets, loose drawstrings and stylised pants.
For women, Rathore's clothes had a softer feel to maintain a good balance between what is airy and flowy and a look that is structured and slick.
Delicate, old prints and motifs that were screen-printed on the garments were adapted from the rich heritage of Rajasthan.
The prices, according to Rathore, are 'extremely competitive in this time of economic crisis'.
