K M Conservatory to foster talent: A gift from A R Rehman

A R Rahman, the music maestro has revealed his plan to set up a music conservatory called K M (Kosmic Music) Conservatory near his studio Kodambakkam in Chennai to foster talented musician.


To give a leg up to the modern-day music industry and create an Indian orchestra or symphony, Rahman has roped in a number of stalwarts to train the aspiring musicians including vocal, instrumental, classical and fusion.

 


Determined to weave a symphony among music, technology and culture Rahman said, “We want our Hindustani and Carnatic musicians to be able to read Western notations and adapt to playing with other musicians.”


“I think the dynamics are not there. Everything is on the face and loud and I think it needs to be a little soft and moderate. That can come only when you have orchestral music training,” he added.


“It's not just playing the violin; it's the musicality Students are going to gain. They can use that (training) in different ways like they can become music producers or music editors. The content has grown so much—so many music channels are there and so many movies are being made. These talents are definitely going to complement all of them,” he further explained.


The veterans include Vendy Paar (violin trainer), Pushkar (composer-cum-conductor), and violin maestro Dr. L. Subramaniam (hon. adviser), Gulam Mustafa Khan (Hindustani vocalist), Randel Giles (composer from US), Lendis Lav (violinist from Czechoslovakia), Srinivas Krishnan (professor) and Murtaza Khan who will grace the conservatory.


This is an effort to put his 15 years experiences in place so that he can pass his cherished dream to others to carve India’s name in the world of music. The conservatory launched in Chennai will start its first batch in June 2008 and will accommodate 150 students in each batch.


The courses includes a part-time two-times-a-week preparatory programme for anyone with no age limit; a foundation course for beginners and a two-year diploma course for advanced study after the foundation course.


The admission will be taken only through auditions while the foundation has decided to give 50% of fee as scholarship to the students considering their talent and economic background.


After having tastes of his musical notes lets wait and watch for lot of these taught out from his musical treasury.
