New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil today condoled the tragic death of two year-old-boy, Sonu, who fell in a 150 feet borewell in a village about 45 kilometers from Agra since Thursday and brought out and declared dead this morning.
The President has expressed deep anguish over the frequencies of such mishaps.
Taking a note of this incident, Rashtrapati Bhavan has issued advisories to the Ministries of Rural Development, the Urban Development, the Water Resources and the Home Affairs so as to prescribe necessary safety standards and to take safety precautions while digging borewells and to instruct accordingly their respective field formations for ensuring their strict compliance.
Sonu was playing near the borewell, which was left uncovered, when he fell inside.
This is not the first case of a child falling into an uncovered manhole in the country.
In March, authorities rescued a two-year-old girl Vandana in Agra who accidentally fell into a 45-feet borewell at Tehra village.
In a similar incident, a five-year-old boy, Prince, fell into a 53 feet and 1.5 wide shaft in Shahbad, Haryana in July 2006. The army rescued him from the pit after two days of rescue operations. (ANI)
