Gutta and Diju reaches Bulgarian Open mixed doubles final
Bangalore, Oct 11 (IANS) India's Jwala Gutta and V. Diju reached the mixed doubles final of the Bulgarian Open badminton Grand Prix in Sofia Saturday, beating Wijaya Rendra and Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia.
Gutta and Diju scored a 21-14, 17-21, 21-17 win over the sixth seeds and will now meet Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati of Indonesia.
Gutta also made it to the semifinal of the women's doubles with Shruti Kurian, getting the better of Japan's Uchida Shizuka and Ayane Kurihara 21-16, 21-15. The Indian duo will now meet Russian top seeds Valeri Sorokina and Nina Vislova.
Aditi Mutatkar beat Maria Elfira Christina, another Indonesian, 14-21, 21-14, 21-18 to reach the women's singles semifinal. Mutatkar will next meet second seed Bulgarian Petya Nedelcheva for a place in the final.
In the men's doubles, Rupesh Kumar and Thomas Sanave beat Robert Adcock and Robin Middleton of England 21-12, 21-13 to move into the last four where they will take on Wijaya Rendra and Meiliana Jauhari of Indoenesia.
