National, Thu, 09 Oct 2008 IANS

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS) Three men were arrested for attacking and robbing a journalist in the capital, the police said Thursday.

Noor Ahmed, 20, Mohammed Yasin, 18, and Danish, 18, were arrested near the Deer Park in Hauz Khas area of south Delhi late Wednesday.

The police said one cell phone, two rings, some cash, a knife, and an auto-rickshaw were recovered from them.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (south Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said they robbed Saurav Mishra, a sports journalist working with Zee TV, while he was waiting at a bus stop atAndrews Ganj on the Ring Road last week.

'The three came in an auto-rickshaw and stopped behind him. One of them took out a knife and tried to rob Mishra of his cell phone and other valuables. When Mishra protested, the accused attacked him. The trio fled in the same auto,' Dhaliwal said.

Dhaliwal said last month the same people had robbed Deepak Rana, resident of Pushp Vihar.

Rana, who had returned from Mumbai, hired an auto-rickshaw from the Indira Gandhi International Airport around 11.15 p.m. Sep 29.

After going some distance, the auto-rickshaw driver gave lift to three more men, who pretended to be passengers. The auto driver then stopped near IIT flyover where they robbed Rana at knifepoint of Rs.7000, two cell phones and two silver rings.

The police said they were also involved in similar cases of robbery in parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Ahmed and Yasin are from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. Danish is a south Delhi resident.
