Delhi under-14 football team on a roll (Capital Sports)

The young Turks of Delhi football team is having a dream run in the All India Football Festival (AIFF) under-14 Football Festival currently underway in Goa.

Formidable Delhi under-14 team continued their unbeaten run as they blanked Himachal Pradesh 8-0 in their last group match of the event. Delhi had scored a 7-1 win over Gujarat, defeated Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana with an identical 3-0 scoreline and got the better off Uttarakhand 2-1 earlier in the tournament. They had only played a lone draw 1-1 with Karnataka.

Delhi's captain Kislay Singh Sajwan led from the front, as he slammed three goals out of eight. Kislay scored in the 12th, 15th and 48th minute of the match. Delhi was leading by five-goal margin at the stroke of lemon break.

On changing the ends, Delhi team studded three more goals to pile up further misery in rival’s camp. Yudhvir Singh (5th minute and 7th minute), Supriya Debarath (25th minute), Ashish (37th minute) and Srikant (56th minute) were the other goal scorers for Delhi team.

DSA Institutional League from March 20

A total of twenty teams are expected to participate in the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) annual institutional league championships, which is being organised after a gap of two years, from March 20 in the yet to be decided venue in the capital.

All the participating teams need to complete their registration formalities by March 10. The participating teams include some big institutions like Indian Airlines, Bank of India, Northern Railways and Food Corporation of India (FCI).

DDCA League

Rahul Mahajan's knock of 92 runs helped Young Association beat Dena Bank by one wicket in a closely fought contest of the DDCA league cricket tournament. In another match, Ekta Club rode on to victory after some fine bowling performances by Yogesh Rana (4/26) and Gopal Bisht (3/17) guided their team to beat Mohan Meakin XI by 64 runs.

Brief scores: Dena Bank 169 in 38 overs (Ashish Yadav 54; Sunil 3/17) lost to Young Association 170/9 in 38 overs (Rahul Mahajan 92; Yoginder Singh 4/27) Ekta Club 221/8 in 40 overs (Shakti Singh 65; Kuunal Lal 3/35) beat Mohan Meakin 157 in 38.4 overs (Kunal Lal 60; Yogesh Rana 4/26, Gopal Bisht 3/17).

Aaj Tak posts win

Fine useful knocks by Abhishek Issar (96) and Chirag Gothi (52) helped Aaj Tak XI beat Doordarshan XI by 102 runs in the DSCL Twenty20 media cricket tournament.

Brief scores: Aaj Tak 200/6 in 20 overs (Abhishek Issar 96, Chirag Gothi 52; Lokender 2/20) beat Doordarshan 98 in 20 overs (Sunil 27 n.o; Vikrant Gupta 3/20).

Virender stars in I&B ministry victory

A fine all round performance by Virender Rawat (65 not out and 4 for 25) helped Ministry of Information and Broadcasting XI beat UNICEF XI by 17 runs in the Commonwealth High Commission cricket tournament.

Brief scores: UNICEF XI 177/9 in 25 overs (Shalinider Jha 49 n.o., Jitender Singh 36; Virender Rawat 4/25, Virender Singh 3/20) lost to I&B XI 194/5 in 25 overs (Virender Rawat 65 n.o., Yogesh Sharma 34).
