Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 8 (IANS) Lok Sabha MP from Kerala M.P. Veerendrakumar was Wednesday chosen for this year's Vayalar Rama Varma Award for Malayalam literature.
The politician has bagged the honour for his travelogue 'Haimavathabhuvil', said M.K.Sanu, one of the trustees of Vayalar Rama Varma Memorial Trust.
Veerendrakumar, 72, is the chairman and managing director of leading Malayalam daily Mathrubhumi and also the chief of the Janata Dal-Secular in Kerala.
He has earlier been the minister of state for finance and labour.
The award, instituted in memory of poet-lyricist Vayalar Rama Varma, carries a cash prize of Rs.25,000 and a citation. The politician-writer would be handed over the award at a function to be held here Oct 27.
Veerendrakumar's 'Haimavathabhuvil' is based on his trip to the Himalayas a few years ago.
The veteran politician said he is 'happy' to receive the award.
