Auto Expo 2012 Concludes with Promises of Bigger Expo Next Year
The 11th auto expo concluded today in a closing ceremony held at Lal Chowk in New Delhi, attended by Kamal Nath, Union Minister for Urban development, and members of SIAM, ACMA and CII.
In his address on this occasion, Kamal Nath praised the great progress in the fields of automobile industry in India. He also emphasized that loopholes should be corrected next time. He further added that automotive sector is the backbone of economy. "We need to think of better ways to move people and not just cars," he said. He also said that disposable income in the rural and urban area has increased demands for automotives. However he pointed finger on decreasing parking spaces and increasing number of automotives on the road.
Speaking on urban mobility he also said that better urban planning is required. He also said that cities with more than two million population would have DPR for metro. "We have ordered all cities with more than 2 million population to prepare their DPR for Metro." he said. He said that completion of Delhi metro Phase 4th, will make it 415 km long network making it even larger than London underground.
Speaking on this occasion Arvind Kapur, President of ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India), stressed challenges thrown by the larger ambit of Auto Expo.
S Sandilya, President, SIAM, said that 58 new vehicles were launched, including 12 green vehicles and 9-concept vehicle. He said that from 2014 on, the auto Expo would be held in February as decided by organizers.
